Classifications of reaction to fire
The assessment criteria for reaction to fire of building materials in Europe is a classification system which was decided on by the European Committee for Standardisation (CEN) in 2001 with the series of standards DIN EN 13501 Classification of reaction to fire of construction products and building elements. This specifies uniform fire protection requirements throughout Europe. According to DIN EN 13501-1 construction products are classified into seven European classes A1, A2, B, C, D, E and F.
In addition, the side effects of fire such as smoke production (s = smoke, classes s1, s2 and s3) and flaming droplets/particles (d = droplets, classes d0, d1 and d2) of construction materials are considered.
